CAT MINT FLOWER

Starting from Seed

Catmint has very tiny seeds that you can find once the flower has dried up. By pinching around the stem of the base of the dried up flower and pulling the flower off the stem you can collect the seeds. After collecting them for use, it is easy to tweezer out a couple for seed starting.

DRIED CATMINT FLOWER READY FOR SEED HARVEST

The seeds can be started indoors in the spring, or they can be sowed directly into the dirt once there is no more signs of frost.

The catmint plant will bloom anywhere from late spring to summer to fall.

Growing your Catmint

Plant your catmint in full sun to partially shaded areas, with well drained soil. It is a fairly easy plant to take care of with regular watering.

Mulching around the plant after it has grown some and is more established, will help maintain moisture in the ground as well as keep weeds at bay. Deadheading your flowers once they are done will help encourage more flowering. Be sure to keep a fair amount of space in between your plants since they tend to grow out.

To help contain your catmint to one area, try planting your seeds and plants in a pot. Catmint is in the mint family after all and will spread out. The pot will help contain the plant into a generalized area.
